La Maison du Rhum Panama batch #5 2007 55°: Description and customer reviews

La Maison du Rhum Panama batch#5 2007 is a Panamanian molasses rum sourced from land rich in nutrients and minerals thanks to volcanoes that are still very active today. This unique terroir produces molasses of the highest quality.

The rum was column distilled in 2007, then aged for nearly 15 years on site in oak barrels that had previously contained bourbon. This cuvée, selected by La Maison du Rhum, produced 6837 bottles in 2022.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose seems light and fruity at first, with peaches, apricots and grenadine. A certain freshness emerges, along with an impression of an ethereal, airy floral fragrance. In the distance, however, we perceive a slick of vanilla caramel that we imagine will soon cover the glass with sweetness.

Aeration takes us into a completely different world, where caramel and vanilla do indeed rule, but not only. There's a certain depth to the distillate, a heavy, generous heart that truly smells of rum, a certain concentration that sticks to the nose.

The palate is both round and powerful, with a thick, sticky rum like caramel that's still very hot. Heavily toasted oak brings a certain roasted bitterness, immediately taken up by the sweetness of the texture. Exotic fruit and molasses provide the bulk of the mid-palate, and the concentration seen on the nose returns.

The finish is very round, with caramelized nuts.

"A very round rum, with a certain concentration largely topped with caramel..."
