L'Encantada Domaine Lassalle 1991 is a Bas Armagnac from the Lous Pibous estate, which means "the poplars" in Gascon. It is located in Mauléon d'Armagnac, a small village in the heart of Bas-Armagnac, in the Gers department.
The estate's eau-de-vie was aged in a very humid cellar, in new black oak barrels with low toast. This single barrel produced 385 bottles, bottled brut de fût at the Vic-Fazensac winery.
It has been selected by the young company l'Encantada, created by a group of passionate friends. This trading house promotes forgotten elixirs from partner producers, most of whom have not been distilling for a long time.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose shows a lovely woody concentration, with subtle nuances of roasting, spices, tobacco and nuts. There's also a slightly rustic, farmhouse feel, and notes of full-bodied brandy, heavy with aroma.
Aeration confirms the ripe, candied character, while the Armagnac becomes fuller and more consistent. The woodiness is as rich and gently spicy as ever, with dried fruits and fatty nuts.
The palate is lively and dry, with a slightly sharp, almost mineral attack. The Armagnac glides over the taste buds like a fresh, lively stream. Then almonds and jammy fruit spread generously across the palate, with vanilla and a hint of coffee.
The finish is sweet and savory, full of kernels and pastry notes.
"A beautiful gourmet concentration, enhanced by a lively attack..."
