Les Frères de la Côte Hispaniola N°5 is a blend of molasses rums produced in the Dominican Republic by the Oliver & Oliver distillery. He was selected by the captain of the schooner Tres Hombres in the centenary solera of Pedro Ramon Olivier.

The rum underwent 18 years of solera aging in ex-bourbon American white oak barrels in a tropical climate. This was followed by a dynamic maturation in Pedro Ximénez casks aboard the brigantine Tres Hombres, before being shipped back to France to the winery in Saint-Étienne. This traditional method of transport allows the rum to mature naturally, while the constant movement of the ship brings about an unprecedented alcoholic integration, creating an over-oxygenation of the spirit.

Bottling was carried out gross de fût in November 2021, i.e. without any reduction in titration. A total of 900 numbered bottles were produced from 2 casks.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose is both fresh and jammy, with a certain power and lightness on one side, and the stickiness of an apricot or mirabelle plum jam with orange peel on the other. Spicy woodiness makes its way through as the rum opens up.

Aeration gives way to wood, which overwhelms us with its vanilla tenderness, almond and coconut milks, and fatty, softly vegetal fibers. The sweet spices then spread out greedily, without restraint.

On the palate, power and roundness are inseparable, and the rum takes its place across the entire palate in the blink of an eye. A slight hint of sulfur shows the influence of the sherry cask, but it's the American oak that dominates. It envelops the taste buds with the tender fleshiness of its woodiness, delivering flavors of vanilla, coconut milk and an almost malty sweetness.

The finish is relatively light, continuing quietly on sweet spices.
