Longueteau Concerto Brut de fût

Longueteau Concerto is the result of a blend of rums aged in cognac casks and rums aged in new oak casks.

It has been bottled without any reduction in titration. It is a brut de fût.

Nico's tasting notes

The first nose is powerful. It shows an imposing woodiness surrounded by a dusting of strong spices. Strongly toasted and a little hard, it's like a box of full-bodied cigars. The first nose is sharp, but also brilliant. The sun is slowly rising, still cold, but we can feel that the day is going to be torrid. The first bursts of honey are luminous, awakening tree bark spiced with cinnamon and tonka bean. The wind has changed and we smell a river of blood orange, red fruit syrup and amarena cherry. The day has dawned on the woody notes, which become softer and simpler, like vanilla tobacco.

With aeration, the wood is both thicker and more mellow, but still very spicy. It's deep and present, very present, but nicely waxed with honey and spices. The cane is treated with originality, as if it had spent time in a barrel. The rum is much calmer than at first, with the cane dressed up in a pretty pepper and citrus fruit that's just bitter.

On the palate, the wood is now completely relaxed. Much simpler than on the nose, it shows a more magnanimous character. Still toasted, it is nevertheless slightly mellow and finely spiced (tonka, cinnamon, nutmeg, pepper). The texture is close to that of a nut paste. The cane has sunk into this fondue of wood and tannins, which now leans towards dried fruits such as dried apricot, prune, dates, figs and orange zest.

The rum continues to evolve on a finish where the fruitiness gains further ground. The prune is perfumed with licorice before being imbibed with brandy, lending a fine subtlety to the whole.
