Longueteau Cuvée 125 ans is an anniversary edition available in a limited edition of 2,500.
In 1896, Louis-Philippe Henry Longueteau began producing agricultural rum at the Espérance distillery, which he had built on the estate of the Marquisat de Sainte-Marie in place of the sugar refinery.
A blend of 3 white rums vintaged 2008, 2009 and 2010 is the origin of this vintage which pays homage to him. These rums are composed of 65% red cane and 35% blue cane. They rested for 8 months in stainless steel vats, then they were aged in 300 liter Cognac barrels. After assembly, we obtain this lovely agricultural rum from Guadeloupe bottled at 44.4°.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is that of an elegant, distinguished rum, with a precise, elaborate woodiness. Spices, particularly pepper, dress the cane juice like fine lace, giving it a precious, refined quality.
Aeration loosens the oak fibers a little, revealing its wax-coated tannins, before we return to its just-toasted surface, which develops nutty aromas. A candied rum soon covers this wood, with ripe cane, mirabelle plum and apricot juices.
The palate is highly aromatic and woody, like an old cognac that has drawn tannins from the oak and then slowly transformed them over time. After a dry, textured attack, the melted wood stretches into notes of orchard fruit, elegant but intense spices, and roasted nuts.
The finish blends the pepper of wood with that of cane, returning to a more vegetal length.
"An elegant, woody old rum, to be enjoyed alongside an old cognac..."
