This agricultural rum from the small Bielle distillery has been aged for 10 years in a single bourbon cask bearing the number 137. It is a brut de fût, bottled at its natural proof.
Each bottle bears the barrel number, the number of bottles made from the barrel, and of course the bottle number.
Nico's tasting notes
The powerful nose of this rum is immediately available and generous. Ripe fruit and stewed sugarcane offer a freshness and youthfulness we'd never have suspected. Old nuts are the first to announce a deep descent into a darker, more mature profile.
Aeration allows the fruit to settle and confide under our noses. The first of these is a prune that takes us straight to the land of Armagnac, accompanied by a handful of almonds, and lifted by a hint of menthol.
The palate is powerful, in the spirit of a body-built armagnac. The dried fruits are concentrated and delicious, supported by the pepper and lime zest typical of fresh cane. Quite dry on the palate, with a relatively astringent, spicy woodiness.
On the finish, roasted nuts continue this rather intense and ultimately serious experience.
"A dry, powerful agricultural rum, that sails on the borders of Armagnac... "
