Longueteau Genesis Vieux Batch 1 71,7° : Description and customer reviews

Longueteau Genesis Vieux is an agricultural rum from Guadeloupe whose name causes a sensation with each new release. After an unaged and then an amber version, this is the first aged rum in the series. This is the first time an agricultural rum has been casked brut de colonne, without reduction, and bottled in the same way, brut de fût.

This cuvée comes from parcel number 9 of the Marquisat de Sainte-Marie, planted exclusively with red cane. After distillation in a Creole column, the rum is placed in new oak barrels from the Tronçais forest. Barrel-aged at 72.3%, it comes out at 71.7% some 4 years later, for a tasting experience as explosive as ever!

The % alcohol content of rum is given as an indication and may vary from batch to batch and vintage to vintage.

Nico's tasting notes

On the nose, a very ripe cane has been laid before us, candied on itself, soft as nougat, like putty or modeling clay. Sweet notes of bitter almond and deeper ones of veal stock quickly bring out a moist, devilishly tropical character, full of tenderness and umami.

With aeration, this same candied profile now spreads out more widely and firmly. No trace of alcohol, no aggressiveness; check the label to be sure: 71.7%, that's pretty incredible.

On the palate, power is at the service of an enveloping sensation, accompanied by flavors of fresh, fruity cane. A slight bitterness of lime zest adds freshness, before bitter almond takes us to a very comfortable, softly vegetal, particularly mellow mid-palate, still with that regressive impression of plasticine.

The finish is long and delicious, full of nougat and candied cane.

"An impressively indulgent rum, regressive and comfortable..."

If you like it, we recommend :

  • A 9-year-old brut de fût martiniquais, with extra concentration and intensity that make it sublime.
  • From Tahiti, this young 3-year-old brut de fût offers a fine concentration of mellow, fruity tannins.
