Malecon 25 ans Reserva Imperial is a rum made in Panama in the Cuban tradition.
After 25 years in American oak barrels that had previously held bourbon, this "ron" has developed greasy, gourmand notes.
It goes perfectly with a good Havana cigar.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is very sweet, powdered with powdered sugar like a marshmallow. It's a light rum clothed in round, tangy appeal, with a hint of wood and caramel. The nuts are lightly roasted and generously coated, with a hint of rosewater wafting through.
Aeration gives us the opportunity to discover a rum that is certainly sweet, but more balanced, thanks to a more woody profile. Vanilla, white wood and tobacco hint at a nice chewiness. There's also a hint of vegetal concentration, combining with the licorice of molasses.
The palate is soft on the attack, but not overly sweet. The rum is relatively light, carried along by the flavors of toasted oak. The barrel develops notes of coffee, roasted and caramelized nuts and burnt wood. Vanilla comes through with a hint of fruitiness.
The finish is very round and jammy.
"A light rum, richly coated with sweet, roasted flavors..."
