Mezan Dominican Republic 2010 46°: Description and customer reviews

Mezan Dominican Republic 2010 is a light molasses rum from the Dominican Republic. The molasses used is 100% Dominican, and the distillery processes it using a modern 5-column installation.

This 10-year-old rum has been aged twice. Placed in American bourbon oak barrels, it was first aged for 3 years in its country of origin. It then traveled to Europe for a further 7 years of continental aging.

It has been bottled with no added sugar or coloring, and without cold filtration.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose is relatively light, with floral notes and a few hints of confectionery sugar. The rum then quickly opens up to wood, and more specifically to well-burnt oak with a blackened surface.

Aeration, and especially rest, give us a glimpse of more roundness, with wood melting into sweet spices (vanilla) and caramel, with a hint of toasted coconut.

The palate is pleasantly concentrated, and immediately takes the path of roasting and caramelization. Nuts follow, perfumed with maple syrup, blond tobacco and spices. In the end, the rum is quite sticky on the palate, but without any sweetness.

The finish offers a gourmand, concentrated woodiness with a vanilla patina.

"Beneath its shy exterior, this rum offers a fine concentration of American oak on the palate..."
