This "brut de colonne", distilled by Montebello under the name "The Bolokos", comes from a plot in a particularly favorable location. It benefits from regular alternation between sunshine and rain. Only red cane is harvested by hand.
This white rum has also benefited from a special fermentation and long resting period.
The bottles are hand-crafted and feature the Guadeloupean punk band "The Bolokos" and their song "White Rum", which was filmed at the distillery.
Only 943 bottles were made for this 2018 vintage.
Given the rarity of this rum, its sale is limited to one unit per order and per customer.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is both dry and tangy, like an intense licorice and red fruit candy. The cane is a little burnt, its straw flambéed and its bark lightly toasted. An armful of raw, concentrated flowers, such as geranium, have also made their appearance. A clearer, rounder cane is beginning to emerge, with a little rest.
With a little air, the power is still there, but the rum really opens up. The cane shows off its fermenting juice, with notes of cooked vegetables, past herbs and orchard fruits so ripe they begin to develop a certain acidity.
The palate is powerful yet round, and the cane crushes as it spreads across the taste buds. The rum bounces in all corners of the mouth, unleashing uppercuts. But it also leaves here and there minty, peppery, sometimes licorice-like flavors. The fermenting vesou is powerful and vibrant, offering a true brut de colonne experience where all the vegetal and terroir flavors come together.
The finish is clean and almost mineral, with a touch of flint and, above all, pepper.
"An uncompromising brut de colonne that will reward seasoned palates with a full-bodied cane...".
