Montebello
The distillery, which was originally called the Carrère distillery, was founded in 1930.
After an initial rapid progression, the activity declined little by little from the Second World War until 1968, when it almost disappeared completely. It was in that year that Jean Marsolle and his son Alain, from a family that had been in Guadeloupe for several generations, bought the distillery.
The distillery is modernised and the production is restarted.
In 1975, it changed its name to Montebello. It then became the 3rd largest in Guadeloupe in terms of volume.
Since January 2012, Grégory Marsolle, Alain's son, has taken over the reins of the family distillery. The distillery has again been modernised and now reuses all its waste (the bagasse from the pressed cane is used as fuel).
Montebello is unique in that it places the oak casks in metal containers to speed up the ageing process, whereas other distilleries seek to reduce the proportion of angels... Read more
