Contrary to appearances, London Dry Gin is made in the Netherlands. However, it is distilled by the very British Berry Bros. & Rudd, in a traditional copper pot still.
Ingredients include angelica root, juniper berries, orange and grapefruit peel, coriander and cardamom.
Tasting notes from Thomas
The nose demonstrates the ambition of this gin. Its density and complexity are immediately apparent. Lemon is supported by medicinal and mentholated notes, while wisps of chocolate mingle with grapefruit, herbs (juniper berries, coriander, green tea) and spices (white pepper, nutmeg). The nose gradually gains in elegance, the balance being permanent.
The palate is full-bodied, lively and invigorating, quite different from the nose. Delicately sweet citrus fruits (lemon, grapefruit, sweet oranges, kumquat) are clearly in evidence. These are accompanied by juniper, star anise, peppermint and fresh herbs. The second half of the palate tends to bring out citrus zest, milk chocolate and almond milk. A few spices then begin to appear.
The finish is long-lasting, with citrus fruits (candied, zest) and warming spices (clove, pepper). At this point, the bitterness is well managed, despite the ambient sweetness. Finally, peppermint stands out amid citrus, licorice and sweet spices.
" A complex, balanced gin that demonstrates a rare density..."
Florent Boniteau
A true premium gin, with the taste of a good London dry, even if it's not English.
