Navy Island Jamaica XO Reserve is a blend of rums from different Jamaican distilleries: Worthy Park, Monymusk and Hampden.
This is a smooth, full-bodied rum, a very cautious introduction to the usually very aromatic but drier Jamaican rums.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose, very well balanced in terms of strength, opens with a beautiful, extremely ripe banana, just like they make at the Saint Catherine distillery. The rum is slightly coppery, and above all brioche-like, with long ribbons of ripe exotic fruit.
Airing and resting confirm this rum's delicacy. A film of milk chocolate gives way to a creamy texture and pastry aromas. Cherry pits are followed by black tea and, of course, dried banana.
The palate is very smooth, giving us plenty of time to appreciate the aromas of this typically Jamaican rum. In the absence of a really frank attack, the rum settles unhindered on the taste buds and begins to detail numerous gourmet, pastry and brioche flavors (prunes, candied fruit, custard, cherry, malted cereals).
Finally, the way is clear for our famous flambéed or dried banana, accompanied by a sweet pineapple juice.
