Nikka 12 ans The Nikka 43°: Description and customer reviews

Nikka 12 ans is a blended whisky. This 12yo is a blend of single malts from the Yoichi and Miyagikyo group distilleries, and coffey still grain whisky.

Tasting notes from Thomas

The nose is relatively waxy. This rich ambience contains barely ripe fruit (pears, apples), malt and fairly soft spices (nutmeg). It then moves on to dark chocolate, lightly burnt wood and undergrowth (moss, fern). Typical of Japanese blends, this nose moves forward without brutality, providing a broad panel that's always well-balanced.

Aeration brings fresh apricots, plums, floral touches (primrose, lily of the valley) and a combination of citrus and walnut shells.

The palate is lively and awakens the taste buds. If the start is clearly fruity, bringing back bits of pear, apple and plum on the wax. We then move on to flavors of undergrowth, toasted wood and citrus. Then it's the spices that pique our curiosity (gray pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg).

The finish is still fruity, with pineapple, white fruit and a hint of citrus (Seville orange). At the same time, the spices perceived on the palate make a noticeable comeback. Finally, a touch of toast, walnut, licorice stick and a few flowers (lilac) bring a tenuous but pugnacious bitterness.

" A contrasting blend that embroiders around a fruity, waxy base... "
