Offrian Rum Panama 8 ans 40° : Description and customer reviews

Offrian 8 ans is a traditional rum produced in Las Cabras under the supervision of the famous maestro ronero Don Pancho.

The "ron" was distilled in a copper column from local molasses steeped in sugar. It was then aged for 8 years in American oak barrels that had previously contained bourbon.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose opens with sweet caramel or even milk jam. There's a real creaminess to it, like salted butter caramel. There's a certain liveliness to the alcohol, which translates into tangy berries.

Time strips the rum of its artifice, and we find something lighter. Of course, the comfort of caramel and vanilla remains, but the rum seems to have refined a little.

The attack on the palate is soft, and somewhat titillated by a light, acidic alcohol. The toasted wood is discreet, represented by a thin layer of caramel. Roasted nuts attempt a breakthrough, but are quickly overtaken by a veil of vanilla.

The finish is light, not very sweet, with vanilla and caramel remaining fairly clear and fluid.

"A light rum, gently scented with vanilla milk jam..."

In comparison, Offrian 12 Years offers more complexity and balance. We find those sweet vanilla and caramel aromas, but also a rather striking cane and surprising spices.
