Papa's Pilar Flagship Dark is a blend of 9 rums from the following countries: Barbados, Dominican Republic, Panama, Venezuela and Florida.
The blend is carried out using the solera method, in bourbon, port and Oloroso sherry casks.
This blend with multiple origins is directly inspired by the adventurous spirit of Ernest Hemingway.
Jeremy's tasting notes
On the nose: from the first pour, aromas of cooked sugar and candied fruit are generously expressed. Fermentative and lactic notes initially dominate the aromatic profile, before giving way to very ripe fruits reminiscent of pineapple, mango, and apricot. A touch of pine resin adds freshness, while notes of vanilla caramel gradually intensify. With aeration, these evolve into a rich and generous maple syrup.
On the palate: the attack is direct and rather dry, enlivened by delicate herbaceous notes. A toasty oakiness quickly emerges, evolving into flavors of mocha chocolate, candied orange, and prune. The spices then unfold with intensity—ginger, clove, cardamom, and licorice—enhanced by a menthol freshness. The tasting lingers with notes of maple syrup, underpinned by a touch of black pepper.
The finish: long and lingering, it unfolds with spices, candied fruit, and a delicately toasted oakiness. Notes of maple syrup persist on the palate, providing a rich and enveloping sensation.
