Peaky Blinder Spiced Rum is a spiced rum. This blend of Caribbean rums is macerated with orange peel, nutmeg, vanilla and raisins. It is a "Dark Spiced", colored with caramel. It lends itself perfectly to cocktails such as Dark'n Stormy.
Sadler's is a well-known British company. It has been distributing beer and spirits since 1861. Its West Midlands stronghold, near Birmingham, was home to gangs such as the Peaky Blinders in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This rum is a nod to that era. The label features William "Billy" Kimber, leader of the Birmingham Boys gang and sworn enemy of the Peaky Blinders.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, we find a rather full-bodied, concentrated spiced rum, with a profile that is both fresh and rather dark. Cinnamon in particular brings these two sides together, and leads the tasting. Some citrus zest harmonizes naturally with the whole.
The palate is smooth and fluid, but not overly round. The blend of spices takes us towards a cola-like, vegetal and gently spicy side. The finish has a nice peppery warmth.
"A spiced rum where there's no need to add cola, because it's already there...!"
