Penderyn Madeira is a single malt from Wales.
Distilled in the Faraday still, it was aged in ex-bourbon casks and then in Madeira wine casks.
Bottling was carried out without cold filtration.
Our tasting note from Thomas
The nose begins peacefully. Fruits (pear, melon) are sprinkled with vanilla sugar before the banana smoothie and milk caramel emerge. This is followed by sweet flowers and fresh herbs.
Aeration changes little. A touch of white pepper comes through, while banana becomes increasingly present. If you're patient, rosewater, peonies and a few confections eventually appear.
Soft and suave on the palate. Vanilla-sugared pear, exoticism (mango but especially banana) and lemon zest are present. In a second phase, slightly bitter herbs and cinnamon bathe in a soft atmosphere. As on the nose, flowers are present (peony, geranium).
The finish reflects the rest of the tasting, a moment of roundness with sweet melon flavors. Cinnamon returns at last, along with butterscotch and a hint of blond tobacco.
" A Welsh whisky that takes advantage of the sweetness of Madeira while retaining contrast..."
