Penny Blue Pure Canne B.Bros is a first for the Penny Blue brand. The Mauritian distillery in Medine is now experimenting with " single estate " pure cane juice rum. This means that the cane pressed, fermented and distilled comes exclusively from the distillery's own estate.
Pure cane juice is distilled in columns and pot-stills, then these two rums are blended to balance their characters. Penny Blue rums are produced in collaboration with Berry Bros & Rudd, the famous British bottler and merchant.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is light and lemony, with a fine, fresh cane that takes on a tangy, candy-like quality. A few pale red fruits take flight with the ethereal vapors: redcurrant and raspberry are lightly peppery.
With aeration, the red fruits become sweeter and even crushed. One could even imagine them milky, creamy, but always with a lightness that preserves the rum's airy side.
The palate is soft and rather light, with a fruity attack and a cane that reaches for very high notes. This brings us closer to its flower than its stem, while a few ground peppercorns tickle the taste buds on the mid-palate.
The finish takes us to a more concentrated cane juice, with hints of fermentation.
"A light rum made from pure cane juice, to add a hint of herbs and plants to your cocktails..."
