Planteray Rum Mauritius 2014 is a traditional molasses rum produced at the Médine distillery, located near Flic en Flac on the island's west coast. Part of the Oceana collection, this vintage bottling showcases Mauritian expertise and the selectivity of the Planteray distillery. Distilled in 2014, it benefits from 12 years of aging, split between the tropics and the European continent.
Distillation is carried out in a column still , a traditional method that produces a rum characteristic of the Mauritian style. The Médine distillery, founded in 1926, is one of the historical players in Mauritian rum production and is part of a sugar heritage deeply rooted in the island's history.
The aging process begins in the tropical climate of Mauritius, where the rum spends eight years in oak barrels . It is then transferred to France to continue maturing for a further four years in casks from Maison Ferrand . This double aging, characteristic of Planteray, combines the influence of the tropical climate with that of a more temperate continental environment, while highlighting the work done with the casks.
This vintage belongs to the Oceana collection, which celebrates rums from island terroirs and regions less known for rum than the Caribbean.
