Pusser's Overproof 75°: Description and customer reviews

Pusser's Overproof is historic Royal Navy rum at its purest.

This 75° proof rum is undeniably powerful, but it also conceals a remarkable complexity and aromatic richness. Made in accordance with the manufacturing rules of Her Majesty's Naval Army, this rum is a blend of rums from Guyana (distillery in the Demerara region), Trinidad (Angostura distillery) and Barbados.

Aged in oak barrels on Tortola in the British Virgin Islands.

Nico's tasting notes

On the nose, lots of power and a good dose of caramel. This rum needs to be approached with care, as the alcohol blocks the aromas a little. It's also a very powdery nose, with a flinty quality, as if two flints had been struck while heating. One might even think of gunpowder just exploded. One also thinks of something metallic, heavy and coppery, which gradually leads us towards oxidized fruits (apple/plum) in compote.
Aeration doesn't calm the beast; it's quite violent and even more coppery. The nose is quite tight, both literally and figuratively, still powerful and powdery. With a lot of rest, it takes on notes of fermented vegetables, but above all roasted nuts.

The attack on the palate has never been so aptly named: intense, coppery, dry and armored. Sorry for the non-technical term, but it's hot stuff, and the taste buds are hyperstimulated! The powder takes on a cocoa-like quality, notes of fermentation and copper intermingle, and power returns in devastating waves. A little prune passes through the eye of the storm. It's worth noting, however, that this rum is well made, for although it's extremely powerful, you don't feel the aromas of alcohol.

The finish is marked by sherry-like notes of oxidation, nuts and prunes.

"Definitely a rum for cocktails, with a dry character, which blended will open up with notes of sherry..."

Perfect for survival on the high seas.

    Color: Mahogany
On the nose, Pusser's Rum Overproof is showing its teeth. Smells of molasses and wood make themselves felt. Then come more gourmand notes of caramel, citrus, coconut and spices.

On the palate, Pusser's Overproof is warm and powerful. You can feel the 75°.

A rather complex aromatic bouquet. Licorice, tobacco, coffee, molasses, spices and honey.

The finish is long and warm, with hints of roasting and gingerbread.

    A dangerous rum :D

I think it should be used in cocktails, or in a preparation of rhum arrangé. Indeed, this rum has great qualities (complexity and aromatic intensity). However, its strength makes "pure" tasting dangerous, and you miss out on its qualities.

it will add punch to a cocktail (Zombie) or I recommend it with a drop of water.
