Rhum Transat 6 ans Ambré Élevé Sous Bois 44,9°: Description and customer reviews

The brainchild of Benoît Charbonnaud, a Burgundy winemaker with a passion for sailing and a love of rum, Rhum Transat 6 ans has travelled the world!

Distilled from fresh cane grown on the slopes of Mount Pelée, and aged first in Martinique for 6 years, this rum traveled 3600 miles for 5 months in the holds of a ship before being placed in barrels that had previously contained great Burgundy wines such as Corton-Charlemagne or Bâtard Montrachet.
Finally, it was matured for a final month in new French oak barrels.

Rhum Transat 6 ans was previously called Rhum Transat XO. Only the name has changed, for reasons linked to the AOC Martinique.

The result is worthy of this incredible journey: richly aromatic.

Laurent's tasting notes

Its color is golden with coppery highlights.

On the nose, Rhum Transat 6 ans offers a well-presented, complex woodiness. This is followed by sweet spices, tobacco and notes of prune and even candied fruit. Vegetal aromas (fresh menthol and intense licorice) complete this rich, ever-changing profile.

On the palate, this rum surprises with its greediness and freshness on the attack. Wood and tobacco appear only later. A hint of pepper invigorates the finish.

The finish is long and woody. It remains intense for quite some time, and the retro-olfaction will allow you to enjoy this rum for several minutes.
After these few minutes, it still offers us very pleasant notes of brown sugar!

A little expensive for this 50 cl bottle.
Nevertheless, the aromas remain very flowery...
