Benoît Charbonnaud, winemaker, rum connoisseur and sailing enthusiast, is behind this "Burgundian rum".

He designed this transatlantic rum for cigar and sailing enthusiasts...
We met him, and after a tasting session with all the explanations about this unusual rum, we can clearly add "rum lovers" to the list!

It is basically an AOC agricultural rum. The distillery is located on the slopes of Mount Pelée in Martinique. The rum is distilled in a double-column copper Creole still.
With these indications, many will have guessed which distillery it might be...

The 2 XO and Millésime 2000 rums were aged for 6 and 15 years respectively in the distillery's cellars, in a tropical climate.

The rum then crossed the Atlantic for 5 weeks and 3600 nautical miles. According to Benoît Charbonnaud, sea travel accelerates ageing due to rolling and pitching. In any case, this cruise did him no harm... Just taste the final result for yourself.

On arrival in mainland France, it was transported to Burgundy.
There, the 2 rums, XO and Millésime 2000, underwent a further 5 months of maturation in barrels that had contained great Burgundy vintages from the Côte de Beaune (Corton-Charlemagne or Bâtard Montrachet). Before decanting, the wine underwent a final refining in new oak barrels from the Fontaine forests in Saône-et-Loire.

All the steps carried out in Burgundy were carried out by Maison Jacoulot, in Romanèche-Thorins, known for its expertise in aging through its Marcs and Fines de Bourgogne, eaux-de-vie aged for several years in oak barrels (three years for Fines de Bourgogne to qualify for this appellation).

After this rocky journey, the results are in! The white, the XO and the vintage have in common that they are well-balanced rums, with intense aromas. A real success story! Read less
