Ron Piet XO is a molasses rum from a distillery in San Miguel, Panama.
The harvested sugar cane comes from the province of Herrera. It is blended with mineral water and fermented with local yeast. The rum is aged for 10 years in old Panamanian bourbon casks, before finally being bottled in Hamburg, Germany.
Ron Piet tells the story of a pirate ship that sank. Only the half-dead "Piet" parrot escaped on a barrel of rum floating on the sea. The cask drifted through storms to the docks of northern Germany, all the way to Hamburg.
