Royal Cane New Yarmouth 1994 60.3°: Description and customer reviews

Royal Cane New Yarmouth 1994 is a molasses rum produced at one of Jamaica's most iconic estates, the New Yarmouth distillery.

After column distillation in 1994, this rum was aged for 24 years in American white oak barrels in the island's tropical climate. In 2018, it traveled from the Atlantic Ocean to the UK to benefit from a further 3 years' maturation in Liverpool's historic docks.

Bottled in 2022, this single cask, number M072, produced a total of 296 numbered copies.

Nico's tasting notes

On the nose, we immediately perceive a gourmet concentration of vanilla and coconut, very typical of American oak casks. This soft, mellow woodiness heralds a round, gently spiced rum, toasted like a slice of brioche.

Aeration tends to reinforce concentration, which manifests itself in a slight touch of solvent. Sweet spices like cinnamon rush in to reinforce the wood, which takes on a little more body and breadth.

On the palate, the concentration seen on the nose is even more striking, and is accompanied by an equally pleasing roundness. The power is still there, but caramelized nuts and vanilla envelop the palate intensely. They are sticky, and line the taste buds with great greed.

The finish is reminiscent of a full-bodied, fruity distillate, but with a hint of buttery caramel.

"A concentration of American oak that coats the palate like an old Demerara..."
