As its name suggests, Cuvée Origine is the very first single malt whisky to be produced by Ferme Distillerie et Malterie Rozelieures.
Born in Lorraine, Rozelieures Origine whisky is a blend of twice-distilled malts, very lightly smoked (6ppm). Aged 40% in ex-Fino sherry casks and 60% in ex-Cognac casks, this single malt is a fine ambassador for the Rozelieures style.

On the nose 👃🏻: fine, gourmet aromas emerge generously from the glass. I perceive a nice smoky note of malt, very sweet like a candy. The fruitiness comes through with grapes and even something close to peach. Digging deeper, I find an earthiness mixed with dry old oak and sweet pepper.
On the palate 👅: on the attack, it's a very vanilla Whisky, rather sweet and quite round. The fruitiness turns more to grape with walnut, and I have a peaty note that spreads out on the palate. This is followed by a clear hay note, rather moderate in intensity but persistent, it must be said. It's like walking between bales of hay in a freshly mown field ^^.
The finish is long on sweet pepper with first a rather subtle floral touch. Then I find a typical old leather note, almost pastry-like at times, with a dry old oak wood at the very end 👌
Verdict ⚡️: for my very first French Single Malt I'm not disappointed, I found it quite fine, it's well made. It's more peaty than I'd imagined (all things considered, since that's not something I often find in what I usually taste) but not unpleasant at all 🤠 It seems to me to be a good gateway to a good palate, it makes me want to discover others!
