Saint Aubin 1819 Black Premium 40°: Description and customer reviews

Saint Aubin 1819 Black Premium is a pure cane juice rum distilled in a copper still. After some time in casks for ageing (blending rums between 1 and 3 years old), it is spiked with the estate's own cane syrup, which gives it its dark color and sweet, fruity character.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose is strongly marked by banana. We notice that this fragrant banana has been languorously rolled in a coffee liqueur, or in molasses with naturally licorice accents.

With rest, the banana matures a little and takes on a carmine hue. This aromatic hue is more reminiscent of heady flowers, fruity red wine and pomegranate. The rum has greatly expanded, the heart of the pure cane juice eau-de-vie rumbling beneath the downy skin of the rose.

On the palate, the texture is round and sweet, and the aromas are rather complex at first. There's a parade of cane, brandy chocolate, molasses, coffee and dried herbs. It's all very tasty. Of course, the banana doesn't give up, coming back with a vengeance in the middle of the palate, sweeping away all the competition.

The finish is marked by a candy-like banana.

"A rum that could be described as "spiced", although without the addition of spices, with a well-flavored sugar..."
