Bristol Black Spiced is an artisanal rum to be enjoyed neat or as a cocktail. It goes particularly well with desserts.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, this rum lives up to its name, as we enter the darkness and depth of the spices. The blend is complex and concentrated, but soon enough it's the curry spices that stand out. It's a blend often found in Indian cuisine, and at this moment you'd think you were in the presence of a fragrant dish sprinkled with coriander.
On the palate, the attack is round and caramelized, then coriander arrives in a tsunami that opens the way to a multitude of other spices. The mid-palate is well spiced, a little spicy, just enough to ruffle and awaken the taste buds.
The finish is strongly toasted and caramelized, with hints of a rather heavy rum.
"This is truly a bouquet of spices that intends to do its job well in cocktails, without hiding behind too easy confectionery..."
Whisky Lodge tasting notes (*)
On the nose, this "spiced rum" is full-bodied, consistent and complex, with notes of fresh gingerbread, dominated by heather honey, fir and thyme.
On the palate, it is greedy and fluid, with a subtle astringency, still abundantly on gingerbread, but also on hazelnut, walnut, macadamia nut, candied orange and citron.
(*) Whisky Lodge is an excellent Lyonnais cellarman who imports the Bristol brand, and who gives us his tasting notes here.
