Saint Aubin 1819 Gold Premium 40°: Description and customer reviews

Saint Aubin 1819 Gold Premium is a pure cane-juice rum distilled in the copper column of the estate's rum distillery. After some time in casks for ageing, it is reduced with estate spring water to bottling strength.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose opens on a fruity note, with yellow-fleshed fruits such as peaches and fresh apricots. A slight vegetal earthiness coats the whole, as if to recall the cane and its terroir. A few cherries later, the fruit swells and becomes more exotic.

Time leaves a small veil of vanilla on the surface. Like a slightly sweet film, it retains the freshness of the cane and fruit. It also gives them a lovely golden patina that establishes a pleasant, honeyed balance. The cane then finds itself well coated with all this, giving it a more mature air.

The palate is soft and fluid. After a slightly ethereal entry, the wood takes the dry, peppery cane sliding straight onto the palate. Then its juice begins to escape, releasing lime zest, followed by other rounder, sweeter fruits.

The finish pays homage to cane as a whole, with a herbaceous, lemony character.

"The cane comes and goes, sometimes giving way to fruit but always returning to the essential..."

On the nose 👃🏻: this rum immediately gives off hints of peanuts before even approaching the glass. Closer up, there's a heavy note of smoky wood, and fruits such as apricot and mandarin with a slight acidity. Fresh cane is also present, in the background with a hint of vanilla, well blended with the rest. Aeration clearly reveals banana, exotic fruits more generally, and that characteristic smokiness.

On the palate 👅: after a brief hint of smoke, we quickly return to the exotic fruits we had on the nose, themselves followed by lovely smoky, just-roasted woody notes that don't overpower the rest. It's very smooth, unctuous, balanced and fresh. With the cane pepper that comes next

The finish is rather long. Spices continue on the palate with our smoky wood, and fresh cane saves a little room for itself 👌

This is my first rum with such strong exotic flavors, surprising and very pleasant. It's very special and clearly takes us on a journey 😎 A very good discovery for me, showing once again the great diversity of pure cane juice rums.
