Saint Aubin History Collection Mauritius 40°: Description and customer reviews

Saint Aubin 1819 History Collection Mauritius is, like the History Collection Isle de France version, a blend of the finest aged rums from the Saint Aubin estate cellars.

Some of them were distilled in the House of Rum's pot still, while the others came from the rum-mill's copper column. All come from the 2004 harvest.

Nico's tasting notes

On the nose, this is a most seductive rum. In a certain sweetness, we distinguish some almost candied strawberries, a woody note full of blanched, fatty nuts, and a well-rounded cane. All this leads to a rather floral, fragrant and committed character.

Aeration adds a new string to the bow of this already well-equipped rum. A heavy, unctuous smoke invades the atmosphere, sometimes like a cloud of powdered sugar, sometimes like peat smoke, or even like a slice of toast.

On the palate, the smoke arrives from the very first moments, and truly evokes Scotland and its peat bogs. Driven by this vegetal, almost medicinal impulse, the cane appears rather dry and thin. It's soberly dressed in pepper and slightly bitter citrus zest. Then, at times, with a plume of smoke, it becomes rounder, more natural.

The finish returns to a well-soaked oak barrel, mellow and almost chocolatey.

"A complex rum with personality and a whole story to tell..."
