Samaroli 1991 Trinidad is a molasses rum with a long Caribbean tradition. Trinidad rums were notably part of the famous British Navy blend. They are distinguished by their full-bodied and aromatic character.
Distilled in 1991, this rum spent a few years in its country of origin, before undergoing the majority of its aging in Scotland . It thus benefited from a slow maturation, to finally be bottled in 2018, 27 years later.
This rum is limited to 345 bottles.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose , a lovely balance is established from the start, with an undeniable maturity. A light veil of smoke covers the rum, and evokes freshly roasted nuts, wood fire, or roasted spices. Very quickly, the sweetness takes over, and the wood appears tender, gently vanilla.
Aeration once again balances the roasting and roundness. We then find an English style that we usually attribute to Barbados rums, with a soft, vanilla woodiness, enhanced by a beautiful concentration of roasted and caramelized nuts.
The palate is strikingly concentrated, instantly capturing the taste buds. After a slightly astringent attack, the soft wood and all its sweet spices languidly envelop the palate, with irresistible seduction. Toasted and caramelized nuts then add just the right amount of intensity.
The finish is a little roasted, but the memory of this vanilla rum that sticks to the taste buds remains for a good while.
