Samaroli 1994 Jamaica 59°: Description and customer reviews

Samaroli 1994 Jamaica is a traditional English molasses rum. It comes from a single cask selected by Samaroli, an independent bottler since 1968 and one of Italy's leading whisky and rum trading companies.

Distilled in 1994, this Jamaican rum was repatriated to Scotland, where it was finally bottled in 2021. It was indeed 27 years later that this unique cask made it possible to issue 398 numbered bottles to the world.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose offers a fine concentration of American oak, focusing on sweet spices and a slight roastiness, taking great care to put aside its resinous or overly green tannins. So it's with a certain roasted greediness that it expresses itself without delay.

Aeration opens the oak fibers wide, releasing broad swathes of dark vanilla, lightly toasted coconut, blond tobacco and toasted, caramelized nuts.

On the palate, the concentration is even more impressive than the nose suggested. The rum literally sticks to the palate with a thick caramel that still seems warm and coats it with a furious greediness. It then spreads its roasted flavors of molasses, coffee and tobacco abundantly, before relaxing into caramelized nuts.

The finish is tasty, and the rum continues to open up into milk caramel and vanilla.

"A monster of concentration and greed, nothing more, nothing less..."
