Santiago De Cuba 8 ans is a light molasses rum, produced according to ancestral traditions in the Santiago de Cuba region. The sugar cane benefits from its proximity to the sea and the city's typical tropical microclimate, with warm temperatures and high humidity all year round.
Distilled in the south of the island by Cuba Ron S.A., this rum is aged for 8 years in old oak casks. Aging is carried out naturally, without the addition of additives or sugar.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is marked by a certain youthfulness, a certain abundant, fruity gaiety that takes us through an orchard filled with pears and apples. Many of the apples are ripe and have already fallen to the ground, giving them an oxidized, cider-like quality.
With aeration, we leave Normandy for the Gers, as our cider side now tends to take on an Armagnac air. The slightly oxidized fruit is still there, but it's caught in an almond-powder cake batter, with a touch of stone that evokes cherry clafoutis.
On the palate, the almond fruit pastes once again sway us between calvados and armagnac, before a hint of caramel and light liquorice brings us back to the ranks of rum and molasses.
The finish is greedy and pastry-like, with almonds and kernels diluting for a long time on the palate.
