This Grosperrin Le Roch VSOP is an AOC Petite Champagne cognac from the independent, family-run house headed by Guilhem Grosperrin. Six to seven people work to make each Grosperrin cognac a unique experience, where each batch is the living testimony of a terroir.
It is a blend of different cognacs from vineyards whose subsoils are mainly chalky limestone and groies soil.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is initially very fresh, like a fruit salad with light syrup, or a basket brought in from the orchard in early summer. The wine brandy still emerges, thanks to a bunch of ripe grapes that still carry a few vegetal notes of marc.
Aeration and resting oxidize the surface of the fruit, giving the apples an old-fashioned look that almost resembles cider, or even calvados. The grapes are as ripe as ever, with sugar dripping from their swollen, sticky berries.
The palate is softly fruity and approachable, supple, with a pinch of spice and pits that gradually grip the taste buds. Ripe pears and apples are spiked with vanilla and peppercorns, leading to a slightly coppery sensation on the mid-palate.
The finish is fluid and subtly pastry-like, with almonds and raisins remaining light and luminous.
"A relatively light and delicate cognac, full of fruit and freshness..."
