SBS Origin French Antilles is a full-flavored rum made from molasses. It has been selected at the Galion distillery in Martinique for inclusion in The 1423 S.B.S Origin Selection collection.
The primary objective of this series is to highlight only white rums sourced for the power of their aromas and their profiles which are off the beaten track.
Reduced to 57° like the other selections, this rum displays an ester level of around 500 g/hlap.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, the typical notes of olives in brine and overripe exotic fruits take on a particularly mouth-watering candied gourmandise. In fact, it's in the form of thick, sweet bubbles that the aromas burst under our noses.
With a little aeration, this sweet, velvety impression persists, as we discover notes of heady flowers, followed by pastry-like, slightly coppery pits.
On the palate, a certain acidity mingled with iodine takes hold of the taste buds, as if in a jar of green olives in brine. This acidity is also reminiscent of overripe, fallen exotic fruit, which fermentation has already begun to transform. The palate is quite dry, drier than the candied nose would suggest.
The finish is very long, slightly herbal and resinous, with a handful of rum-soaked grapes that begin to swell with time.
"The delicacy and character of a grand aroma rum unique in the world..."
