Warehouse #1 WP/CJN River Mumma is a white rum distilled by Worthy Park Estate.
This rum is quite astonishing, since it is made from pure cane juice, whereas Jamaican rums, and in particular those from this distillery, are usually made from molasses.
River Mumma is a character from Jamaican folklore. She is represented by a mermaid.
Nico's tasting notes
As expected, the nose of this Worthy Park makes an impression, as we're really not used to tasting a rum made from pure cane juice from this distillery. It's a lovely fresh cane that greets us here, with all the strength of pot still distillation giving it both a lovely roundness and a delightful fullness.
With aeration, the rum continues to complete its harmony, achieving a simple, successful balance. The pure cane juice is present, fresh, sweet, fragrant with citrus and exotic fruits, slightly peppery, underlined by a light veil of solvent.
The palate is a kind of hybrid between pure cane juice and cane syrup, with a wild aspect derived from fine fermentation and traditional distillation, and a licorice side of cooked vesou. An invigorating herbaceous and resinous freshness lights up the palate, while earthy flavors of truffle and olive fill the taste buds.
The finish is lightly coppery, lingering on long-fermented cane juice, both sweet and sour.
"Jamaica is full of promise and surprises, and manages to instill its "funk" with pure cane juice..."
