William Hinton 3 Year Old is a tribute to a great name in Madeira rum. This Englishman arrived on the island in the mid-19th century and developed the sugar and rum industry, setting up the largest factory/distillery in the country.
The original distillery closed in 1986, but the Engenho Novo team rehabilitated its distillation column. They continued to produce a traditional agricultural rum, which they aged for 3 years in French oak barrels.
