XM 7 years VXO 40°: Description and customer reviews

Produced by Guyana-based Banks DIH, XM 7 ans VXO is a blend of 7-8 year old rums aged in bourbon oak casks.
This traditional rum was then matured in casks previously used for sherry wine.

Nico's tasting notes

On the nose, we find the typical notes of English molasses rums. The roundness is enhanced by roasted nuts and roasted notes (coffee and cocoa), like a rum from Guyana. There's also a hint of burnt rubber and bitumen, as in Trinidad rums.
Caramel becomes more prominent with aeration. We were expecting a spicier evolution given the overall profile, so in the end we're almost left with the roundness and ease of a Latin rum. This impression of a hybrid rum is confirmed when we detect a smoky, woody background. The spices finally make their way through the honeyed gingerbread. The pastry register is finally established with the gourmandise of a milk chocolate orangette.

The palate is slightly sweet at first, allowing the "harder" notes of smokiness and burnt rubber glimpsed on the nose to take hold. Candied orange and vanilla then spread widely across the tongue.

The finish recalls the first aromas of molasses and caramel, and is rather simple, thick and greedy.

"Here's a nice opportunity to discover the family of traditional English rums for a lover of sweetness and Latin rums..."
