Zaka Rum Single Distillery Trinidad 7 years 42° : Description and customer reviews

Zaka Rum Single Distillery Trinidad 7 years old is a tribute to the people of the land. These makers of cane and rum officiate under the benevolence of Zaka, the voodoo god of peasantry. This selection of Trinidad rums is an approach to the English style, characterized by full-bodied profiles.

This molasses rum is a blend of column distillates aged between 7 and 10 years in ex-bourbon barrels.

Nico's tasting notes

The light nose of this rum skims the surface of a well-dried, well-roasted oak barrel, from which a few vanilla wisps still escape. These aromas call forth other sweet, gourmand notes, such as caramel and spiced molasses.

Aeration won't reveal much more, as the cask keeps its secrets deep within its coal-black surface.

The palate is divided between vanilla sweetness and slightly more piquant spices. Pepper takes its place in a rather rounded atmosphere. It occupies the mid-palate, with other spices swarming and swirling on the tongue.

The finish offers a snapshot of tender oak, then the rum quietly fades away.

"A fairly light expression of Trinidad style, marked by a fairly dry American oak barrel..."
