Auchcroisk

Located in Mulben , in the heart of Speyside , not far from Keith and iconic distilleries like Strathisla or Strathmill , the Auchroisk distillery (pronounced Auth-rusk, meaning "little ford of the red river") owes its establishment to the fortuitous discovery of the Dorie's Well spring, whose water proved ideal for distillation.
Built between 1972 and 1974 by Justerini & Brooks to supply the famous J&B blend , Auchroisk is a modern distillery, awarded for its architecture and equipped with significant facilities: eight stainless steel fermenters, four pairs of stills , an annual capacity of close to 6 million liters of pure alcohol, and vast warehouses that can accommodate up to 250,000 casks , also used for other whiskies from Justerini & Brooks .
Long dedicated almost exclusively to blends (nearly 90% of production), the distillery nevertheless began bottling its single malt in 1986, initially under the name The Singleton , considered more accessible than Auchroisk. The latter did not reappear on the labels until 2011, when Singleton became a separate brand for other distilleries.
Little known to the general public, Auchroisk remains rare in official bottlings—primarily a 10-year-old Flora & Fauna , as well as a few older editions—and is more readily available from independent bottlers . Its style can vary depending on production requirements, ranging from dry and herbaceous profiles to sometimes oily, fruity, or biscuity notes, as evidenced by certain cask strength or special-finish versions.
