The Saint James distillery is one of the two largest in Martinique.
It was founded in 1765 by Father Edmond Lefébure. Its name was invented so that its product could be easily marketed to the English. Indeed, at the time, a decree from Louis XIV prohibited the sale of rum from the French colonies in metropolitan France.
It is located in Sainte Marie, in the northeast of the island of Martinique .
