We were at Whiskey Live at the end of September 2015. Here's what we thought of the new features...

A friendly meeting where we were able to meet many interesting personalities from the rum microcosm such as Julien from the Référence Rhum site, Cyrille Lawson from HSE , Freddy from the A Rhum boutique, and of course the essential Luca Gargano (the Italian house Velier )

We absolutely loved:

Bielle 2001, Enmore 1986, Enmore 32 yearsEnmore 32 years Silver Seal (1977)

Although very old, this Enmore from Guyana is not overly woody. The work of time has produced an oily, fruity and gourmet rum, pleasant and complex on the palate.

We also liked all these new features:

Fair Belize 5,10,11

FAIR Belize Rum 10 years and 11 years
The 11 year old version is cask strength: the alcohol, far from masking the aromas of this rum, on the contrary highlights them. In addition, the brand is 100% fair trade, which pleases us enormously.

Clairins

Batch 3 of Clairins
In this third batch we find a Casimir clairin with a truffle flavour, while the Vaval has saline notes on the nose. The Sajous, for its part, disappointed us a little.

Rum Rum

Rum Rum
Here is the new version of Libération, aged 3 years more, which brings a more present woodiness. But make no mistake, this rum from Marie-Galante is still far from being tamed!

Demerara Diamond 1999

Diamond 1999 at 64.7%
This new version of the 1999 Diamond offers us a less woody profile which leaves more room for fruit aromas while being more powerful.

Planting

Santa Lucia 2004 from Plantation (replacing the 2003)
This new vintage of Santa Lucia from Plantation retains the main markers of its predecessor and draws even more on a smoky side.

Caroni 15,17,2000Caroni 17 years old, the Millennium in magnum…

Caroni full proof 68.4 and 70.9…a 2000 vintage 15 years old at 68%, and another 2000 vintage 15 years old at 70% (from a different barrel).
Concerning the latter, they have an incredible length in the mouth… It is not new for the Caroni “full proof” but we do not get tired of it. It is better to finish a tasting of several rums with one of these because afterwards we can no longer drink anything as we cannot “get rid” of these very marked phenolic aromas…

We forgot to take the pictures but we'll tell you about them anyway:

Grey Cane Rod (it's actually a white...) at 59%
A single-varietal agricultural white rum (the first gray cane on the market) which surprises with its sweetness for its 59°

Connecting rod 40th anniversary (2008)
This new Bielle cask strength offers us a typical bourbon woodiness with its aging in Jack Daniels casks while retaining the Bielle touch.

And we still love:

Chalong BayChalong Bay !

White rum that is always pleasant to taste with a little lemon (and no sugar).

Interesting discussion about the legal impossibility in Thailand on the one hand to make a version at more than 40° and on the other hand to age on site. They are visibly working on flavored versions with innovative processes… We can't wait!
