1731 Fine & Rare British West Indies
Before blending, the rums are aged for up to 8 years in some cases.
No additives are used (no caramel, no sugar, nothing else), like all the rums in the range. No cold filtration is carried out prior to bottling.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is sweet and deeply fruity, with ripe, velvety exotic fruit. Mango, sweet jackfruit, a handful of lychees or juicy pineapple come to mind. But there's nothing wild about this profile, which is more akin to a delicate fruit salad.
Aeration removes the more exotic and tropical side, leaving only the freshness and delicacy of the fruit. They are now a little paler in color, and have blended into a light, sweet-spiced baba syrup.
The palate is well-balanced, with a sweet yet full-bodied character at first, between the velvety smoothness of exotic fruits and a certain coppery, spicy strength. The mid-palate is softer, with vanilla and coconut melting into a slightly creamy syrup. Touches of pine resin, prune and cherry pit round off this gourmet picture.
The finish is long and flavorful, with bitter almond and dried banana.
"A blend that lives up to its promise of summing up an English style that is fruity, pastry-like and full-bodied..."
