Rum Artesanal Burke's Blend is a Caribbean blend from the Germans at Rum Artesanal. Accustomed to superb selections at consistently fair prices, this time they've concocted a blend of rum from Barbados and Jamaica. Both are molasses rums, some distilled in columns, others in pot-stills.
Barbados rum is a native of the country, aged for 8 years in the tropics. Jamaican rum, meanwhile, is heir to the tradition of Navy rums, as it comes from a winery located in the docks of the British army.
Nico's tasting notes
The first nose is relatively light, with a spicy fruitiness typical of the English tradition. This gentle, measured first impression precedes a fuller-bodied flight, with floral accents that keep the wine at a certain altitude.
With aeration, a subtle balance is established between softly woody notes and the same generous fruitiness. Oak and caramel make the fruit mellower, giving us a glimpse of ripe melon, sweet strawberries and velvety mango...
The palate is very gourmand, like a fruity, milky cherry or strawberry bonbon. The peach takes us into more golden flavors, as we move towards vanilla, coconut milk and sweet caramel. We then return to our fuller-bodied, more tropical and exotic fruitiness, which even offers a hint of copper.
The finish is pastry-like, caressed by almond milk and stewed exotic fruit.
"A harmonious rum, without being devoid of character, which evolves from the beginning to the end of the tasting..."
Isabelle Polleux
