Old Saint Croix Royal Danish Navy The Frigate Jylland is a spirit drink made from aged rum. As is often the case, the brand is involved in supporting its country's military forces, and this vintage is no exception.
Indeed, it pays homage to the frigate Jylland, which was a prominent feature of the Danish navy during the 19th century. After being decommissioned at the beginning of the 20th century, it nearly met its end, but a preservation foundation (in which Old Saint Croix participates) has now converted it into a museum.
Note: Old Saint Croix is the new name for the AH Riise brand. The rum remains exactly the same!
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is very fruity and gourmand, with sweet-spiced orange peel liqueur. The citrus's oily side brings its share of bitterness, immediately counterbalanced by the roundness of a rum one imagines to be thick and sticky.
Aeration transports us alongside a buttery, gently spicy cake batter. It begins to caramelize over time, without losing its orange nuances.
The palate is very round, offering the texture and aromas of the cake batter encountered on the nose. In fact, a slight powderiness is felt on the attack, reminiscent of a ready-to-bake cookie, powdered sugar or dry cake soaked in orange rum syrup. Sweet spices are also present, becoming more and more cooked as they settle on the palate.
The finish is greedy and round, like a bitter orange liqueur.
"A rum with orange aromas, reminiscent of cake batter on the nose and palate, with a very round, buttery, powdery texture..."
