The Classic Range is produced by 300-year-old independent bottler Berry Bros. & Rudd.
The aim of this range is to represent the different styles of Scotch whiskies (Islay, Speyside, Highlands...), and more recently, rums (Barbados, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Guatemala).
Berry Bros. presents a traditional Spanish rum, produced in Guatemala.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose opens with fruit pastes that have an odd, winey, teasing quality. Strawberries in jam seem sweet, as do apricot and peach marmalade. A burnt oak quietly casts its shadow, bringing seriousness and depth.
Aeration brings back the playtime, with tangy fruit, green apple and fresh orange peel. A little roundness of almond comes forward, accompanied by vanilla.
On the palate, our mischievous fruits are back, this time playing by the fireplace. They've taken on a slightly smoky hue, which also carries a hint of tar. The mid-palate is a sort of molasses and cherry cake, with a hint of chocolate.
The finish is light but delicious, with a touch of stone and prune.
"A rather varied rum from the Latin tradition, which doesn't rely solely on aging to create aromas..."
