Bielle 2017 4 ans is a rhum vieux agricole from Marie-Galante. The pure cane juice, distilled in a Savalle column in 2017, was aged in French oak barrels (fine grain) for 4 years. Bottling took place in 2021.
High-quality wood and tropical ageing in the distillery's cellars allow it to develop a beautiful aroma, reflecting its magnificent terroir.
Nico's tasting notes
The first impression on the nose is of ripe, candied cane. The rum is round and unctuous, like butterscotch. The full-bodied nuts that emerge from the soft white woody notes are also very sweet. We think of blanched almonds, or even macadamia nuts.
Aeration confirms this greasy, powdery atmosphere. Notes of nougat, butterscotch and even putty are added to the nuts. The sticky, ready-to-melt cane sugar takes us back for a moment to cooked vesou.
On the palate, it's easy to find our little nougat bursting with cane and greens. The fatty almonds become a little drier here, while the rum summons up its flavors of fermenting vesuvius. This slightly more rustic phase brings an interesting relief, contrasting with the greediness of the woodiness.
The finish returns to cane juice and sugar, in a delicious epilogue.
"A mellow, silky woody wrapper that contains a sweet but authentic cane..."
