Bougainville Gold is a blend of several rums from the Mauritian Oxenham distillery, each aged for at least one year.
The aging took place in tuns for the first part, and in oloroso sherry casks for the second part, and finally in Pedro Ximenez sherry casks for the third part.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is full of fruit, generous from the first moments. Here we approach a very fruity, colorful, funky English style, but without any notes of fermentation that are too advanced, too wild. Banana and Williams pear sometimes recall whisky, while we come across a small coppery note.
The aeration gives us a little acidity, and the fruits become more and more juicy. They also reveal a little of their stone, around which the flesh carries a slight acidity.
The palate is very smooth and balanced, but without any artificial roundness. The rum has a velvety, silky texture that makes it slide across the palate with ease. It then unfolds its flavors of ripe banana, pears and cherry pits on the fly.
The finish is pastry-like but also slightly tannic, with green and resinous wood.
“A surprising and completely pleasant profile, because generously fruity and funky from start to finish…”
