Cañero 12 Malt Whisky Finish is a molasses rum made in the Dominican Republic. It was the expertise of maestro ronero Juan Alberto Alvarez that led to this blend of spirits.
A selection of rums, the oldest of which is 12 years old, were aged in ex-bourbon casks using the solera method. This blend was finished for 6 months in single malt casks from the Ben Nevis distillery.
This is the same rum as Summum Finition Malt Whisky, but with a new name.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, we discover a rum that immediately plays on two fronts. On the one hand, a round, vanilla-flavored rum, and on the other, a whisky with a generous, malty cereal. It's the mellowness that links our two spirits, creating a harmony of sweet almond.
Aeration and rest allow a slightly sweet character to take hold. So it's our soft, sweet rum that finally takes over. The nose settles on a powdery marshmallow, gliding quietly over a stream of sweet almond.
The palate is very smooth, offering us the flavors of a very sweet whisky, perfumed with sweet almond. Malted cereal notes meet coconut milk, marshmallow, vanilla and condensed milk.
The finish is just as round, with a toasty, soaked woodiness and hints of blond tobacco.
"A rum that maintains its roundness with softly malty notes...".
