Chamarel Vanilla Cask finish comes directly from Mauritius. It is a rum from the Chamarel distillery.
This is a balanced composition of Chamarel cane rum and natural vanilla beans from a nearby plantation.
Maceration lasts 8 months, in vats containing 80 grams of sugar per liter.
It makes a good cocktail base, but can also be enjoyed on its own or in a coffee.
Nico's tasting notes
The first impression on the nose is of white rhum agricole, followed by a bold vanilla bean. The woodiness and sugar are also vanilla. Chouchous, pralines and brioche come to mind. It's resolutely gourmand but delicate.
There's always that comforting sensation on aeration. There's vanilla, of course, and we're definitely in a funfair mood, with chouchous and now an apple d'amour. Sweetness, yes, but without excess.
On the palate, it's mainly the white rum that permeates, with the vanilla more discreet. The palate is now more fresh, with cane and a slight woodiness. It's less delicate than on the nose, though a lovely milk chocolate does manage to find its way in.
The finish returns to vanilla, the texture subtle, not too thick.
"More subtle than a spiced rum, more gourmand than a wood-aged rum, this original rum hits the nail on the head..."

Sweet, spicy and full of character.
I loved this blend of flavors.

Nose: a rum that plays on duality. On the one hand, there are sugarcane aromas that transport us to the fields and plantations (straw, vegetal notes, sugarcane). On the other, there are gourmand notes (pastry, vanilla, light caramel). This is a very talkative nose. It's a nice surprise.
I was expecting a very sweet, flat rum, but here we have a rum that is both gourmand and authentic.
In the mouth: It's a vanilla ti-punch!
Beautiful notes of sugarcane and vanilla. The addition of sugar is noticeable, but very well balanced. The style is gourmand without being heavy. A successful gamble for Chamarel.
The final notes are wood, tobacco and pralines.
A fairly long finish on vanilla and sugarcane.
Conclusion:
I'm blown away by this product. It's simple, balanced and powerful. Often in this category of rum, there's an imbalance (too syrupy) or a lack of power. This Chamarel Vanilla Cash Finish enhances the agricultural rum while making it gourmand and subtle.
I recommend it as a gentle introduction to the world of rhum agricole. I recommend it to lovers of rhum arrangé, ti punch, vanilla and rum in all its forms.
I give it 5/5 for the Arranged Rum category, because its simplicity and balance blew me away.
Drink it neat, in your coffee, as a base for a pineapple arranged rum (Ok, that's an expensive base for an arranged rum, but let's be crazy), or in a fruit salad (e.g. a verrine of fresh pineapple with this rum).
